Narrative:

Flight attendants reported smoke odor; mid-cabin; seat rows 15-19. The odor was determined to be coming from the video audio control unit under seat 17C. Power was removed from the video entertainment system and smoke odor dissipated immediately. Cockpit crew was notified and accomplished smoke fumes and odor and smoke removal checklists. Adjacent passenger were reseated to open seats away from 17C. Flight attendants applied halon to affected component as a precaution. Cockpit notified that source of smoke odor was determined contained and controled. Aircraft landed without further incident. Maintenance was notified.

Title: VIDEO CONTROL UNIT ABOARD 767-300 OVERHEATED; CAUSING FUMES IN THE CABIN. UNIT WAS IDENTIFIED; PWR REMOVED; AND HALON APPLIED AS A PRECAUTION.

Narrative: FLT ATTENDANTS RPTED SMOKE ODOR; MID-CABIN; SEAT ROWS 15-19. THE ODOR WAS DETERMINED TO BE COMING FROM THE VIDEO AUDIO CTL UNIT UNDER SEAT 17C. PWR WAS REMOVED FROM THE VIDEO ENTERTAINMENT SYS AND SMOKE ODOR DISSIPATED IMMEDIATELY. COCKPIT CREW WAS NOTIFIED AND ACCOMPLISHED SMOKE FUMES AND ODOR AND SMOKE REMOVAL CHKLISTS. ADJACENT PAX WERE RESEATED TO OPEN SEATS AWAY FROM 17C. FLT ATTENDANTS APPLIED HALON TO AFFECTED COMPONENT AS A PRECAUTION. COCKPIT NOTIFIED THAT SOURCE OF SMOKE ODOR WAS DETERMINED CONTAINED AND CTLED. ACFT LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. MAINT WAS NOTIFIED.
