Narrative:

On arrival; cleared direct intersection; runway xxc selected; aircraft navigation tracking to intersection. Approach changed runway to xxl. Captain selected runway xxl from box; was briefing approach and first officer was reviewing plate. Approach asked us if we were on a 240 degree heading. Noticed aircraft was not navigation trk but was in heading sel. Have no idea why aircraft came out of navigation trk mode. Approach then turned us to new heading. Nothing else was said.
