Narrative:

While on left downwind cleared for touch and go; tower did not hear readback. Attempted to call on other frequencys without success. Could hear tower/ground on appropriate frequency; but they still couldn't hear me. Attempted to squawk 7600 and hit wrong button ending up getting everyone's attention with 7500. Did go around looking for light signals from tower. I could hear tower on tower frequency. He was calling my aircraft number; but that was all -- never actually cleared me to land after I changed squawk from 1200. Before landing squawked 7700; stated I had a radio emergency and was landing on runway xx (just in case it was being recorded). After landing stopped and waited for light signal from tower. Received flashing green to taxi and attempted to contact ground. Wouldn't you know it; the radio worked. (Typical electronic stuff. Always works when you don't really need it.) ground advised had entered 7500 and had center 'in a lather;' but they didn't ask me to call after shutting down the aircraft.

Title: PA28 PILOT INADVERTENTLY SQUAWKS 7500 WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SQUAWK 7600 AFTER LOST COM IN THE TRAFFIC PATTERN.

Narrative: WHILE ON L DOWNWIND CLRED FOR TOUCH AND GO; TWR DID NOT HEAR READBACK. ATTEMPTED TO CALL ON OTHER FREQS WITHOUT SUCCESS. COULD HEAR TWR/GND ON APPROPRIATE FREQ; BUT THEY STILL COULDN'T HEAR ME. ATTEMPTED TO SQUAWK 7600 AND HIT WRONG BUTTON ENDING UP GETTING EVERYONE'S ATTN WITH 7500. DID GAR LOOKING FOR LIGHT SIGNALS FROM TWR. I COULD HEAR TWR ON TWR FREQ. HE WAS CALLING MY ACFT NUMBER; BUT THAT WAS ALL -- NEVER ACTUALLY CLRED ME TO LAND AFTER I CHANGED SQUAWK FROM 1200. BEFORE LNDG SQUAWKED 7700; STATED I HAD A RADIO EMER AND WAS LNDG ON RWY XX (JUST IN CASE IT WAS BEING RECORDED). AFTER LNDG STOPPED AND WAITED FOR LIGHT SIGNAL FROM TWR. RECEIVED FLASHING GREEN TO TAXI AND ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT GND. WOULDN'T YOU KNOW IT; THE RADIO WORKED. (TYPICAL ELECTRONIC STUFF. ALWAYS WORKS WHEN YOU DON'T REALLY NEED IT.) GND ADVISED HAD ENTERED 7500 AND HAD CTR 'IN A LATHER;' BUT THEY DIDN'T ASK ME TO CALL AFTER SHUTTING DOWN THE ACFT.
