Narrative:

We were in level flight at 5000 ft; speed assigned 230 KTS; being vectored for the ILS runway 11. We received an epgws warning of 'terrain; terrain; pull up; pull up.' I took control of the aircraft and executed the CFIT maneuver. The warning stopped passing through 5500 ft. I advised ATC that we were climbing in response to a terrain warning and leveled at 6000 ft. The controller replied casually 'yea; that's mt diablo' and gave us a descent to 5000 ft. After the event the first officer told me he saw the RA indicator 2300 ft and decreasing. I don't know what the lowest RA indicated.
