Narrative:

At FL360; I noticed the #1 oil quantity indicator showing zero. At that point I asked first officer to open the QRH to the low oil pressure checklist. I was assuming that we would soon have low oil pressure if the oil quantity system was functioning properly. In less than a min I noticed that the #1 oil pressure was erratic and generally getting lower and lower. Also; the oil pressure caution light on the instrument panel (independent system) started to flicker. We declared an emergency and set our transponder to 7700. We ran the low oil pressure checklist; and when we saw oil pressure in the red with an oil pressure caution light fully illuminated on the panel; we ran the engine failure/shutdown checklist. The engine showed a windmiling oil pressure of about 10 or more psi. Center and approach were very easy to work with; as was ZZZ tower. The approach and landing were uneventful. In-flight; we had asked for emergency equipment to be standing by and it was. The only official I had to speak with was the fire chief. He asked very general questions.
