Narrative:

We initially filed a flight plan and had stored it in our FMS. Upon receiving our clearance we were issued a new routing. A new first officer; instead of removing the flight plan; attempted to edit the flight plan. He missed removing an intersection that was no longer on our route. Upon reaching ZZZ VOR; the aircraft; on autoplt turned and the center immediately asked where we were going. In the future all data of flight plans that are changed will be erased and a new flight plan inserted.
