Narrative:

In profile descent on civet arrival to lax; runway 25L; in vicinity of civet; socal revised clearance to runway 24R. That had been loaded into route 2 in FMS. Began to make change in route; given speed increase of 60 KTS; already in the descent. In making the changes; FMS froze; so we asked for vectors to the final approach course. I normally just ask for a vector on a runway change at this point; but we elected to try to keep on the new arrival. Won't do it again...too much heads down and opportunity for error. Better choice; get a heading and altitude; set up approach; and fly it. Called socal sector supervisor; had no loss of separation; and he apologized for late change. He also agreed that better course of action would be vectors to final.

Narrative: IN PROFILE DSCNT ON CIVET ARR TO LAX; RWY 25L; IN VICINITY OF CIVET; SOCAL REVISED CLRNC TO RWY 24R. THAT HAD BEEN LOADED INTO RTE 2 IN FMS.
