Narrative:

When we picked up our clearance from teb; they gave us the teb 5 departure. We advised them if we could get vectors instead because we didn't want a departure procedure; but we ended up having to do one. I was assisting the two pilots from the back seat; and reviewed the teb 5 departure with the two pilots flying to make sure everything was squared away. Once we reviewed the procedure and everyone felt comfortable with everything because it was our first time flying into the new york area; we got our takeoff clearance and departed. Once airborne; the distance from the airport wasn't showing up on the G-1000; and ended up busting an altitude restr. ATC vectored us and explained to us what we did wrong. The teb 5 departure was an easy departure procedure and everyone aboard knew how to do it; but the distance failed to show up on the G-1000. Once we got it showing; it was too late; and ended up busting the altitude restr.
