Narrative:

X-tie lockout light illuminated during preflight inspection. Reset normally. During climb out x-tie lockout light illuminated then left generator off light illuminated extinguishing x-tie lockout light. Volts and frequencys and CSD temperatures on left generator were all normal; but left generator would not reset to pick up load. APU picked up load of both busses as normal. APU was running because right generator was deferred. Declared emergency and diverted to ZZZ. Upon touchdown left generator picked up load from left bus. Taxied to ramp.
