Narrative:

I was the pilot flying the aircraft. We were following the BOOTH7 arrival into vancouver. We were reclred to follow the canuck arrival. This new arrival was not located in our FMC so the captain retrieved it from the chart manual. As I was flying the aircraft he programmed the new arrival into the FMC but as it turns out he put the arrival in for runway 8L and we were going to runway 26R. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated that the crew had programmed the FMC and briefed the booth 7 a good distance from the airport. During descent ATC changed the arrival to the canuck 9 runway 26R. The crew attempted to insert the canuck 9 arrival into the FMC but it was not available in the database. The aircraft was at this point entering the area where the aircraft should have been following the arrival routing. The captain chose the canuck 9 runway 8L approach plate and was manually entering the waypoints not realizing that an entirely different chart covered the canuck 9 runway 26R. The captain did not see the much smaller lettering distinguishing the runway 08L/right from the 26LR procedures. Therefore the first officer was hand flying the aircraft to waypoints for the incorrect runway involving specific speeds; altitudes; and headings different from the canuck 9 runway 26R. ATC realized the crew's error before the crew did and began giving them vectors for a 26R approach. The reporter stated that there was very little traffic at that time. The approach controller said this event was not a problem.

Title: A B757-300'S CYVR STAR WAS CHANGED DURING DESCENT TO THE CANUCK 9 RWY 26 WHICH WAS NOT IN THE FMC DATABASE. THE CAPT MANUALLY ENTERED THE CANUCK 9 RWY 08 WAYPOINTS; IN ERROR; WHICH THE FO HAND FLEW UNTIL ATC IDENTIFIED THE DEVIATION.

Narrative: I WAS THE PLT FLYING THE ACFT. WE WERE FOLLOWING THE BOOTH7 ARR INTO VANCOUVER. WE WERE RECLRED TO FOLLOW THE CANUCK ARR. THIS NEW ARR WAS NOT LOCATED IN OUR FMC SO THE CAPT RETRIEVED IT FROM THE CHART MANUAL. AS I WAS FLYING THE ACFT HE PROGRAMMED THE NEW ARR INTO THE FMC BUT AS IT TURNS OUT HE PUT THE ARR IN FOR RWY 8L AND WE WERE GOING TO RWY 26R. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE REPORTER STATED THAT THE CREW HAD PROGRAMMED THE FMC AND BRIEFED THE BOOTH 7 A GOOD DISTANCE FROM THE ARPT. DURING DESCENT ATC CHANGED THE ARRIVAL TO THE CANUCK 9 RWY 26R. THE CREW ATTEMPTED TO INSERT THE CANUCK 9 ARRIVAL INTO THE FMC BUT IT WAS NOT AVAILABLE IN THE DATABASE. THE ACFT WAS AT THIS POINT ENTERING THE AREA WHERE THE ACFT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THE ARRIVAL ROUTING. THE CAPT CHOSE THE CANUCK 9 RWY 8L APCH PLATE AND WAS MANUALLY ENTERING THE WAYPOINTS NOT REALIZING THAT AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT CHART COVERED THE CANUCK 9 RWY 26R. THE CAPT DID NOT SEE THE MUCH SMALLER LETTERING DISTINGUISHING THE RWY 08L/R FROM THE 26LR PROCEDURES. THEREFORE THE FO WAS HAND FLYING THE ACFT TO WAYPOINTS FOR THE INCORRECT RWY INVOLVING SPECIFIC SPEEDS; ALTS; AND HDGS DIFFERENT FROM THE CANUCK 9 RWY 26R. ATC REALIZED THE CREW'S ERROR BEFORE THE CREW DID AND BEGAN GIVING THEM VECTORS FOR A 26R APCH. THE REPORTER STATED THAT THERE WAS VERY LITTLE TFC AT THAT TIME. THE APCH CTLR SAID THIS EVENT WAS NOT A PROBLEM.
