Narrative:

After landing runway 20L and taxiing north on taxiway H; ground controller told us to hold short of taxiway left. There is no 'pre' taxiway sign; the sign for the taxiway is way off the side in amongst a bunch of red lights and dimly lit. Also on the taxiway is a red warning for approach. We taxied past taxiway left and the controller told us to turn on taxiway J. We missed that for all the same reasons. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated in the glare of red lights a taxiway sign may have been off to the west some distance but down away from the taxiway and very difficult to see. He was fairly certain that the taxiway signage did not have an arrow pointing left with the taxiway letter on it.
