Narrative:

Due to environmental heat and lack of air my alertness was compromised and a tool may have been remained in the stabilizer compartment. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated this tool was his personal wrench he was using to replace the horizontal stabilizer switch control for the stabilizer brake system. The stabilizer compartment was very hot and air circulation was basically non existent. He thought he had removed all his tools; but later noticed the missing wrench when he did a tool check. The aircraft had already departed. He notified the company and the aircraft was diverted and landed without incident. The horizontal compartment was inspected and his wrench was found on the upper surface of the horizontal center box section.
