Narrative:

I dialed ATIS; then called clearance. I was given a clearance that included flight following with ZAB. About this point my mind went into neutral or maybe overdrive. I am not clear of the sequence of the following events but this is what I remember. I got a taxi clearance (while still on clearance 132.87) to taxi to runway 21. The distance from the hangar to taxiway K hold line is short; maybe 200 ft. Both communication radios were turned up making hard to really understand all that was said. I was tuning both GPS system; had started my run-up and heard 'cleared for takeoff.' I continued my run-up and turned the speaker off on the radio not on clearance. I did these tasks while taxiing down taxiway K and turned down taxiway B; did a 180 degrees and held at the hold short line on taxiway B. Then went to tower (118.5) to confirm cleared for takeoff. This has been a problem area for several yrs. The FAA has a new control tower and the controllers cannot see taxiway K until you are almost at the intersection of taxiway K and taxiway B next to the approach end of runway 21. At times it is even hard to get them over the radio. As can be seen on the chart you can taxi from taxiway K to taxiway B without getting on runway 21. At some point I did watch a king air land on runway 21. If I had turned left instead of right it could have been a very bad day for several people. I do not think anybody made any corrective action based on my taxiing. The hold short line on taxiway B has been used for yrs as the run-up area and that was where I was. The best way to address this problem area would be to build a new taxiway from the hangar area to the area at the end of taxiway B then plow up taxiway K. Roswell has become a storage area for aircraft from dash 8's to B747's; DC10's; and L1011's. The tails of these aircraft is what blocks the view from the tower.

Title: PLT OF UNKNOWN ACFT TYPE CROSSES HOLD SHORT LINE WITHOUT CLRNC AT ROW.

Narrative: I DIALED ATIS; THEN CALLED CLRNC. I WAS GIVEN A CLRNC THAT INCLUDED FLT FOLLOWING WITH ZAB. ABOUT THIS POINT MY MIND WENT INTO NEUTRAL OR MAYBE OVERDRIVE. I AM NOT CLR OF THE SEQUENCE OF THE FOLLOWING EVENTS BUT THIS IS WHAT I REMEMBER. I GOT A TAXI CLRNC (WHILE STILL ON CLRNC 132.87) TO TAXI TO RWY 21. THE DISTANCE FROM THE HANGAR TO TXWY K HOLD LINE IS SHORT; MAYBE 200 FT. BOTH COM RADIOS WERE TURNED UP MAKING HARD TO REALLY UNDERSTAND ALL THAT WAS SAID. I WAS TUNING BOTH GPS SYS; HAD STARTED MY RUN-UP AND HEARD 'CLRED FOR TKOF.' I CONTINUED MY RUN-UP AND TURNED THE SPEAKER OFF ON THE RADIO NOT ON CLRNC. I DID THESE TASKS WHILE TAXIING DOWN TXWY K AND TURNED DOWN TXWY B; DID A 180 DEGS AND HELD AT THE HOLD SHORT LINE ON TXWY B. THEN WENT TO TWR (118.5) TO CONFIRM CLRED FOR TKOF. THIS HAS BEEN A PROB AREA FOR SEVERAL YRS. THE FAA HAS A NEW CTL TWR AND THE CTLRS CANNOT SEE TXWY K UNTIL YOU ARE ALMOST AT THE INTXN OF TXWY K AND TXWY B NEXT TO THE APCH END OF RWY 21. AT TIMES IT IS EVEN HARD TO GET THEM OVER THE RADIO. AS CAN BE SEEN ON THE CHART YOU CAN TAXI FROM TXWY K TO TXWY B WITHOUT GETTING ON RWY 21. AT SOME POINT I DID WATCH A KING AIR LAND ON RWY 21. IF I HAD TURNED L INSTEAD OF R IT COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY BAD DAY FOR SEVERAL PEOPLE. I DO NOT THINK ANYBODY MADE ANY CORRECTIVE ACTION BASED ON MY TAXIING. THE HOLD SHORT LINE ON TXWY B HAS BEEN USED FOR YRS AS THE RUN-UP AREA AND THAT WAS WHERE I WAS. THE BEST WAY TO ADDRESS THIS PROB AREA WOULD BE TO BUILD A NEW TXWY FROM THE HANGAR AREA TO THE AREA AT THE END OF TXWY B THEN PLOW UP TXWY K. ROSWELL HAS BECOME A STORAGE AREA FOR ACFT FROM DASH 8'S TO B747'S; DC10'S; AND L1011'S. THE TAILS OF THESE ACFT IS WHAT BLOCKS THE VIEW FROM THE TWR.
