Narrative:

During initial climb; I noticed the frequency meter indicated full left deflection off scale for the generator #1 and standby power. Normal indications were found on generator #2 and APU after starting in-flight. Maintenance control was contacted and advised that the #1 generator had been replaced in jul/xa/07. Dispatch was contacted and a discussion was made regarding the WX en route to iah (thunderstorms; hail; etc) and a decision was made to return to phx. Upon arrival; maintenance verified that the frequency on generator #1 and standby power was not 400 HZ. Frequency on generator #2 and APU were normal.
