Narrative:

28000 ft MSL controled airspace. Deviating on pilot headings due to clouds in vicinity. We were given clearance to deviate from assigned routing with ZMA controller due to some clouds along our route. I queried ZMA about the 'ride' ahead at 28000 ft. ZMA stated; 'another carrier just went through the same area ahead and reported a smooth ride.' we were unable to keep completely clear of clouds and went through a small buildup. At that time we encountered moderate turbulence that lasted about 2-3 seconds. 2 flight attendants sustained minor injuries. Do not underestimate any WX that might be associated with turbulence.
