Narrative:

Climbing out of teb on the teterboro 5 departure a traffic alert sounded climbing through 900 ft MSL. As PNF; I looked to visually find the traffic. At the same time I was issued the ATC handoff to new york departure. I then switched the radio to the new frequency. Upon checking in and looking at the altitude on check in that we had climbed to 1900 ft. After a query by the departure controller a clearance to climb to 8000 ft MSL was given along with a turn.
