Narrative:

There was lack of communication all around here. I was not notified by either my boss or maintenance that we had a special door here for aircraft X so the communication between departments was not there. Technician came into the parts room and requested a l-hand gear door. I took technician out in the hangar where our gear doors are kept and handed him a gear door. Technician said that he did not understand why we are changing out a gear door for another gear door that looked the same. I gave technician the gear door. When technician questioned our inspection; he said that this was the right gear door and to go ahead and hang it; so that was the end of the conversation. At XA45 the supervisor on duty had came up to me and let me know that the gear door that I handed out was the wrong one; that they needed a different part number. I was not aware before then that there was a specific door that needed to go on that aircraft. I am not aware of how they just then noticed. The aircraft returned to the hangar and the other gear door was put on.
