Annunciator illuminated indicating an abnormal engine condition. Left engine oil strainer clog light illuminated at cruise. Reduced thrust to idle; light remained illuminated. Executed QRH procedure and diverted to nearest suitable airport. Landed uneventfully. Left engine operated at idle thrust. ATC declared an emergency.
