Narrative:

I was on practice ILS runway 35R approach at apa nearing the decision ht with a safety pilot as another aircraft was taking off in the opposite direction (runway 17L). The tower called for us to turn right. I delayed; due to trying to have the 'go around' function on the autoplt do this. Although I turned the heading bug on the HSI to make a right turn; I did not push the heading function to engage it; thus delaying the required right turnout until the aircraft taking off had passed above us.
