Narrative:

Ground cleared us to taxi to runway 8L and I immediately asked if we were cleared to cross runway 8R. Ground said yes; it's closed. I queried him stating that ATIS did not list it closed and he said it is going to open in a little while. We taxied normally; accomplishing all checks and frequency changes. Approaching the end of runway 8R the captain stopped the aircraft short of runway 8R because we heard tower clear a regional jet to land on runway 8R. If we had continued as cleared; at the pace we were going (normal taxi speed) we would have been on the end of the runway just as the regional jet crossed the threshold. Bad. Mia is closing runway 8R frequently now and opening it up during the afternoon push; and this could well result in some bent metal.
