Narrative:

I was the oncoming first officer picking up this aircraft from the previous crew. During the walkaround the ground handlers indicated that a luggage pod in the aft cargo compartment had moved in-flight due to the jfk ramp crew's failure to engage the retaining locks properly. I spoke with the off-going flight crew; who said their flight attendants had reported hearing banging noises under the floor during flight. One of the flight crew also stated he could feel the effects of the moving container through the flight controls. No one reported any aircraft damage or malfunctions to us; and we proceeded more or less on schedule. Our return flight from lax to jfk was uneventful.
