Narrative:

During our descent into sdq I as PNF requested present position direct to position pigma; the FAF on the newest approach page for the VOR/DME approach to runway 17. The page was effective mar/xa/07 and we were flying after mar/xa/07. We were told by approach control to fly directly to pitox; the previous FAF for the VOR/DME runway 17. When I queried approach control about the discrepancy; we were told that they had reverted back to the old approach. I asked to confirm this since the approach plate I was holding was just a few days old. Approach control confirmed they wanted us to fly to pitox. As it was day and full VFR conditions; I confirmed that pitox was still in the database and we proceeded directly to that point. As we approached pitox I confirmed with approach control that we had runway 17 in sight and we were then cleared a visual approach to runway 17. As there was no WX I am submitting this report to confirm that a new approach plate will be issued; and that no aircraft is dispatched to sdq without an IFR approach to runway 17. This would be the case since the new and old VOR DME approach have different radials; and the ILS is unusable. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states charts have been reissued with the older FAF; so charts now match ATC terminology.

Title: ACR FLT CREW ON VOR DME RWY 17 APCH TO MDSD FINDS FAF ON COMMERCIAL APCH CHART DOES NOT MATCH APCH CTL TERMINOLOGY.

Narrative: DURING OUR DSCNT INTO SDQ I AS PNF REQUESTED PRESENT POS DIRECT TO POS PIGMA; THE FAF ON THE NEWEST APCH PAGE FOR THE VOR/DME APCH TO RWY 17. THE PAGE WAS EFFECTIVE MAR/XA/07 AND WE WERE FLYING AFTER MAR/XA/07. WE WERE TOLD BY APCH CTL TO FLY DIRECTLY TO PITOX; THE PREVIOUS FAF FOR THE VOR/DME RWY 17. WHEN I QUERIED APCH CTL ABOUT THE DISCREPANCY; WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY HAD REVERTED BACK TO THE OLD APCH. I ASKED TO CONFIRM THIS SINCE THE APCH PLATE I WAS HOLDING WAS JUST A FEW DAYS OLD. APCH CTL CONFIRMED THEY WANTED US TO FLY TO PITOX. AS IT WAS DAY AND FULL VFR CONDITIONS; I CONFIRMED THAT PITOX WAS STILL IN THE DATABASE AND WE PROCEEDED DIRECTLY TO THAT POINT. AS WE APCHED PITOX I CONFIRMED WITH APCH CTL THAT WE HAD RWY 17 IN SIGHT AND WE WERE THEN CLRED A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 17. AS THERE WAS NO WX I AM SUBMITTING THIS REPORT TO CONFIRM THAT A NEW APCH PLATE WILL BE ISSUED; AND THAT NO ACFT IS DISPATCHED TO SDQ WITHOUT AN IFR APCH TO RWY 17. THIS WOULD BE THE CASE SINCE THE NEW AND OLD VOR DME APCH HAVE DIFFERENT RADIALS; AND THE ILS IS UNUSABLE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES CHARTS HAVE BEEN REISSUED WITH THE OLDER FAF; SO CHARTS NOW MATCH ATC TERMINOLOGY.
