Narrative:

While taxiing to the ramp our instructions were taxi south line until abeam the tower then transition to the north line. After taxiing abeam the tower we were transitioning to the north line at 45 degrees when the first officer yelled stop. I hit the brakes; not seeing what I was braking for. At the last second I saw a tug impacting the aircraft on the right side. We were taxiing in heavy rain and fog (light fog) with our nose light; taxi recog lights on. There was damage to bottom of aircraft; right behind the nosewheel and slight damage to the nose tire. Supplemental information from acn 729490: I yelled out; 'stop' 5 or 6 times and also got on the brakes. Shortly thereafter the tug struck us. It was raining very hard. Ramper then backed up the tug and got out of tug. Several other rampers stopped to make sure he was fine. We had nose and recog lights on the entire time we were taxiing.
