Narrative:

We were working on aircraft X on jan/mon/07. We were advised by the supervisor on duty several days later that we installed the wrong emergency escape slide for the forward service door on aircraft X. The events and details; which surround the situation will be listed below. These are the facts: aircraft X arrived in ZZZ with the forward service door slide case latch broken. During the gate call we ascertained that we would need to replace the slide assembly. It was very busy at the time with multiple gate calls and several mechanics dropping in and out of maintenance item on aircraft X. 2 technicians assisted in the gate call. After working another flight; 1 technician went back to help finish the final installation and to speed up the process; he signed the logbook for another technician who was finishing up the job. The primary cause of the situation was numerous gate calls; related distrs and our failure to fully check maintenance computer parts compatibility program. At the time this occurred; multiple gate calls were occurring and in an effort to provide an on-time product we failed to fully complete the check of maintenance computer parts compatibility program when pulling the part for installation. I know you're going to ask what do you mean fully check maintenance computer parts and compatibility and effectivity program. This is what happened while we were pulling up maintenance computer parts and compatibility and effectivity program to verify the part effectivity. We were distraction by numerous gate calls; and a request by another mechanic. Once again we started checking maintenance computer parts and compatibility and effectivity program when we also received another call for assistance regarding another maintenance request. These items and numerous gate calls culminated at this point and time; that's when the distrs caused the problem. We failed to press enter and see the notes which state that you must install all of the same slides in order for the aircraft to be in compliance. In my honest opinion this was merely an oversight and we had no intent or premeditation of disregarding procedures when this occurred.

Title: A B737-700 WAS DISPATCHED WITH THE INCORRECT EMER ESCAPE SLIDE INSTALLED ON THE FORWARD SVC DOOR.

Narrative: WE WERE WORKING ON ACFT X ON JAN/MON/07. WE WERE ADVISED BY THE SUPVR ON DUTY SEVERAL DAYS LATER THAT WE INSTALLED THE WRONG EMER ESCAPE SLIDE FOR THE FORWARD SVC DOOR ON ACFT X. THE EVENTS AND DETAILS; WHICH SURROUND THE SITUATION WILL BE LISTED BELOW. THESE ARE THE FACTS: ACFT X ARRIVED IN ZZZ WITH THE FORWARD SVC DOOR SLIDE CASE LATCH BROKEN. DURING THE GATE CALL WE ASCERTAINED THAT WE WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE SLIDE ASSEMBLY. IT WAS VERY BUSY AT THE TIME WITH MULTIPLE GATE CALLS AND SEVERAL MECHS DROPPING IN AND OUT OF MAINT ITEM ON ACFT X. 2 TECHNICIANS ASSISTED IN THE GATE CALL. AFTER WORKING ANOTHER FLT; 1 TECHNICIAN WENT BACK TO HELP FINISH THE FINAL INSTALLATION AND TO SPEED UP THE PROCESS; HE SIGNED THE LOGBOOK FOR ANOTHER TECHNICIAN WHO WAS FINISHING UP THE JOB. THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF THE SITUATION WAS NUMEROUS GATE CALLS; RELATED DISTRS AND OUR FAILURE TO FULLY CHK MAINT COMPUTER PARTS COMPATIBILITY PROGRAM. AT THE TIME THIS OCCURRED; MULTIPLE GATE CALLS WERE OCCURRING AND IN AN EFFORT TO PROVIDE AN ON-TIME PRODUCT WE FAILED TO FULLY COMPLETE THE CHK OF MAINT COMPUTER PARTS COMPATIBILITY PROGRAM WHEN PULLING THE PART FOR INSTALLATION. I KNOW YOU'RE GOING TO ASK WHAT DO YOU MEAN FULLY CHK MAINT COMPUTER PARTS AND COMPATIBILITY AND EFFECTIVITY PROGRAM. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED WHILE WE WERE PULLING UP MAINT COMPUTER PARTS AND COMPATIBILITY AND EFFECTIVITY PROGRAM TO VERIFY THE PART EFFECTIVITY. WE WERE DISTR BY NUMEROUS GATE CALLS; AND A REQUEST BY ANOTHER MECH. ONCE AGAIN WE STARTED CHKING MAINT COMPUTER PARTS AND COMPATIBILITY AND EFFECTIVITY PROGRAM WHEN WE ALSO RECEIVED ANOTHER CALL FOR ASSISTANCE REGARDING ANOTHER MAINT REQUEST. THESE ITEMS AND NUMEROUS GATE CALLS CULMINATED AT THIS POINT AND TIME; THAT'S WHEN THE DISTRS CAUSED THE PROB. WE FAILED TO PRESS ENTER AND SEE THE NOTES WHICH STATE THAT YOU MUST INSTALL ALL OF THE SAME SLIDES IN ORDER FOR THE ACFT TO BE IN COMPLIANCE. IN MY HONEST OPINION THIS WAS MERELY AN OVERSIGHT AND WE HAD NO INTENT OR PREMEDITATION OF DISREGARDING PROCS WHEN THIS OCCURRED.
