Found out wrong material had been ordered and installed on side (outer) strap for barrel split line. Material should have been .050 2024-T3. Material used .040 2024-T3. Material in drawer since jul/xa/06; to present; could have up to 21 nose cowls affected. Contacted engineering and have destroyed wrong material.

Title: MD80 ENG NOSE COWLINGS WERE DISCOVERED BY THE REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY REPAIRED WITH THE WRONG THICKNESS OF METAL STRAP.

Narrative: FOUND OUT WRONG MATERIAL HAD BEEN ORDERED AND INSTALLED ON SIDE (OUTER) STRAP FOR BARREL SPLIT LINE. MATERIAL SHOULD HAVE BEEN .050 2024-T3. MATERIAL USED .040 2024-T3. MATERIAL IN DRAWER SINCE JUL/XA/06; TO PRESENT; COULD HAVE UP TO 21 NOSE COWLS AFFECTED. CONTACTED ENGINEERING AND HAVE DESTROYED WRONG MATERIAL.
