Narrative:

Approximately 1 hour into flight cruising at 340 KTS we received a generator #2 fault. Following the ECAM procedures we attempted a reset which did not work; so we turned the generator off and started the APU. A few mins later we received an idg low oil ECAM and decoupled the generator as per the ECAM procedure. After consultation with maintenance and dispatch we continued toward destination since we had 2 working power sources. A short time later the APU automatic shut down. Since we only had 1 power source we elected to divert. The approach and landing were uneventful. Contract maintenance was unable to recouple the #2 generator after 2 attempts so they deferred the #2 generator. They recertified the APU after finding rags in the APU compartment. We ran the APU successfully for 1 hour on the ground prior to continuing. We departed uneventfully with the #1 generator and the APU operating. Just south of chicago the APU automatic shut down again while in cruise at FL320. We descended to FL300 and restarted the APU which automatic shut down again shortly thereafter. Since we were down to 1 power source again; we diverted. Approach and landing were uneventful.

Title: A319 FLT CREW DIVERTS DUE TO LOSS OF #2 GENERATOR AND APU.

Narrative: APPROX 1 HR INTO FLT CRUISING AT 340 KTS WE RECEIVED A GENERATOR #2 FAULT. FOLLOWING THE ECAM PROCS WE ATTEMPTED A RESET WHICH DID NOT WORK; SO WE TURNED THE GENERATOR OFF AND STARTED THE APU. A FEW MINS LATER WE RECEIVED AN IDG LOW OIL ECAM AND DECOUPLED THE GENERATOR AS PER THE ECAM PROC. AFTER CONSULTATION WITH MAINT AND DISPATCH WE CONTINUED TOWARD DEST SINCE WE HAD 2 WORKING PWR SOURCES. A SHORT TIME LATER THE APU AUTO SHUT DOWN. SINCE WE ONLY HAD 1 PWR SOURCE WE ELECTED TO DIVERT. THE APCH AND LNDG WERE UNEVENTFUL. CONTRACT MAINT WAS UNABLE TO RECOUPLE THE #2 GENERATOR AFTER 2 ATTEMPTS SO THEY DEFERRED THE #2 GENERATOR. THEY RECERTIFIED THE APU AFTER FINDING RAGS IN THE APU COMPARTMENT. WE RAN THE APU SUCCESSFULLY FOR 1 HR ON THE GND PRIOR TO CONTINUING. WE DEPARTED UNEVENTFULLY WITH THE #1 GENERATOR AND THE APU OPERATING. JUST S OF CHICAGO THE APU AUTO SHUT DOWN AGAIN WHILE IN CRUISE AT FL320. WE DSNDED TO FL300 AND RESTARTED THE APU WHICH AUTO SHUT DOWN AGAIN SHORTLY THEREAFTER. SINCE WE WERE DOWN TO 1 PWR SOURCE AGAIN; WE DIVERTED. APCH AND LNDG WERE UNEVENTFUL.
