Narrative:
Aircraft departed without airworthy release upon completion of a major alteration. At the time of occurrence I did not have airworthy release authority/authorized and was unfamiliar with maintenance procedures manual policy. The paperwork aco does not indicate a release is required.

Title: A B737-700 WAS RELEASED FOR SVC AFTER A MAJOR ALTERATION ACCOMPLISHED AND APPROVED ON FORM 337. AIRWORTHINESS RELEASE WAS NOT SIGNED.
Narrative: ACFT DEPARTED WITHOUT AIRWORTHY RELEASE UPON COMPLETION OF A MAJOR ALTERATION. AT THE TIME OF OCCURRENCE I DID NOT HAVE AIRWORTHY RELEASE AUTH AND WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH MAINT PROCS MANUAL POLICY. THE PAPERWORK ACO DOES NOT INDICATE A RELEASE IS REQUIRED.
