Narrative:

Aircraft was on a right downwind to runway 23 at buf. Abeam the numbers; cleared for the visual; captain performed a descending right turn that activated the GPWS with a bank angle warning. Aircraft was in a high rate of descent; right base pointed directly at the threshold when tower called; 'air carrier X are you aware that you are on a close-in right base!?' I responded in the affirmative and the approach was continued with a slight widening of the base leg. Approach and landing were continued to completion. Aircraft was not completely configured until 800 ft AGL due to excessive speed. Aircraft was well outside parameters of a stabilized approach until 300 ft AGL. On landing rollout; I 'assisted' captain in maintaining runway centerline after no response to a verbal callout.

Title: DC9 FLT CREW EXECUTES AN UNSTABILIZED APCH INTO BUF.

Narrative: ACFT WAS ON A R DOWNWIND TO RWY 23 AT BUF. ABEAM THE NUMBERS; CLRED FOR THE VISUAL; CAPT PERFORMED A DSNDING R TURN THAT ACTIVATED THE GPWS WITH A BANK ANGLE WARNING. ACFT WAS IN A HIGH RATE OF DSCNT; R BASE POINTED DIRECTLY AT THE THRESHOLD WHEN TWR CALLED; 'ACR X ARE YOU AWARE THAT YOU ARE ON A CLOSE-IN R BASE!?' I RESPONDED IN THE AFFIRMATIVE AND THE APCH WAS CONTINUED WITH A SLIGHT WIDENING OF THE BASE LEG. APCH AND LNDG WERE CONTINUED TO COMPLETION. ACFT WAS NOT COMPLETELY CONFIGURED UNTIL 800 FT AGL DUE TO EXCESSIVE SPD. ACFT WAS WELL OUTSIDE PARAMETERS OF A STABILIZED APCH UNTIL 300 FT AGL. ON LNDG ROLLOUT; I 'ASSISTED' CAPT IN MAINTAINING RWY CTRLINE AFTER NO RESPONSE TO A VERBAL CALLOUT.
