Narrative:

Aircraft X was one of my ron aircraft. I was on another gate call. When I came back to the shop I saw my partner working on an aircraft so I went over to join in on the work in progress. The description of the write-up was smoke smell and smoke in cabin. It was a cold morning and the crew had both packs in the automatic position and in the on position. The captain said when the recirculation fan was turned off the smoke/smell went away. No circuit breakers were popped but the recirculation fan was replaced after operating the packs and no smoke or smoke smell could be detected in cabin or cockpit. The recirculation fan that was removed turned freely indicating it was ok so I did the paperwork parts tag and logbook while the others put the aircraft back together. Thinking I may be able to save the removed fan from being shipped out I signed the log as replaced.
