Narrative:

First officer landed on runway 16L at den. Captain took over control of the plane just prior to F4 high speed taxiway. Captain exited runway 16L at F4 and was about to turn south onto taxiway F when I noticed a metroliner traveling south on taxiway F at a rather high speed. I applied brakes to prevent a collision with the metroliner. We were in the process of calling the ground controller when this happened. After we came to a stop I said to the ground controller 'that was too close.' I don't remember his response. My next response was 'I would have appreciated a heads up on the metroliner.' in a very short tone he said to me; 'you don't have permission to taxi onto my taxiway without my ok.' I made no further comment. It was dark and we were taxiing about 40 KTS when this happened; a typical scenario. I just thought that since the ground controller had contact with the metroliner he would have told them to yield to us since we were just exiting the runway.
