Narrative:

With jet traffic on 2.5 mi final; tower cleared us for takeoff; no delay. We complied; and then several seconds into takeoff; tower ordered air carrier Y to go around; followed immediately with an order for us to abort. Rejected takeoff was carried out; turned off runway as instructed. Made PA to passenger; called maintenance control to confirm that an abort above 80 KTS required aml entry; then taxied back to gate; deplaned passenger. Called in aml entry to maintenance control; and while waiting for contract mechanic to arrive; required brake cooling period elapsed. Mechanic performed rejected takeoff inspection and signed off aml. Re-boarded remaining passenger and continued flight. Apparently; the tower controller started feeling uncomfortable with the traffic situation he had set up; sending air carrier Y around. It seemed odd to us; however; that he would abort our takeoff as well.

Title: CRJ CAPT DESCRIBED INCIDENT AT SRQ WHEN CTLR ISSUED AN IMMEDIATE TKOF WITH TFC ON FINAL BUT THEN ISSUED GAR AND ABORT INSTRUCTIONS.

Narrative: WITH JET TFC ON 2.5 MI FINAL; TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF; NO DELAY. WE COMPLIED; AND THEN SEVERAL SECONDS INTO TKOF; TWR ORDERED ACR Y TO GO AROUND; FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY WITH AN ORDER FOR US TO ABORT. REJECTED TKOF WAS CARRIED OUT; TURNED OFF RWY AS INSTRUCTED. MADE PA TO PAX; CALLED MAINT CTL TO CONFIRM THAT AN ABORT ABOVE 80 KTS REQUIRED AML ENTRY; THEN TAXIED BACK TO GATE; DEPLANED PAX. CALLED IN AML ENTRY TO MAINT CTL; AND WHILE WAITING FOR CONTRACT MECH TO ARRIVE; REQUIRED BRAKE COOLING PERIOD ELAPSED. MECH PERFORMED REJECTED TKOF INSPECTION AND SIGNED OFF AML. RE-BOARDED REMAINING PAX AND CONTINUED FLT. APPARENTLY; THE TWR CTLR STARTED FEELING UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE TFC SITUATION HE HAD SET UP; SENDING ACR Y AROUND. IT SEEMED ODD TO US; HOWEVER; THAT HE WOULD ABORT OUR TKOF AS WELL.
