Narrative:
We departed the gate and were assigned runway 22L via txwys B and D. On taxiway B in the vicinity of intersection F and A15; a tug with 2 bag carts in tow approached the intersection from right to left and was not able to stop without encroaching on taxiway B. Fortunately; I was able to see him in my peripheral vision and stop in time to avoid a collision. With some difficulty; the tug driver was able to back up enough for us to continue taxiing. My first officer was able to get a vehicle number. We advised ATC and later in-flight; we also advised dispatch for follow-up.
