Narrative:

On climb out out of lga airport on our way to detroit we were assigned to climb to FL360. We leveled off at 36000 ft. The controller asked us our assigned altitude because he was indicating we were at FL364. It was then we realized we had not set our altimeter to 29.92 inches hg. I believe this was caused by the failure of the PNF to complete the climb checklist; namely; the resetting of altimeters through 18000 ft. And; also the failure of the PF (me) to recognize that it was not done.
