Narrative:

En route to phl over corle on the SPUDS1 arrival I missed a crossing restr of 12000 ft at corle; we crossed at approximately 14000 ft after notifying ATC we would not make the restr. Beginning the SPUDS1 arrival we were cleared to cross 15 mi south of dny at FL190 which we did. Some time after this point the first officer (PNF) received a clearance to cross corle at 12000 ft and put it in the altitude selector. I was the PF and continued on the arrival at FL190 watching the top of descent bug approach. After passing the top of descent I began to wonder when we would be cleared to cross corle. About 5 mi north of corle I was about to ask the first officer to query ATC to see if they wanted us to cross corle at 12000 ft. At this point ZNY asked if we had begun our descent yet. This caused momentary confusion as I did not recall being cleared to 12000 ft but on referencing the altitude preselect I saw 12000 ft had been dialed in. I immediately began a descent and told the first officer to notify ATC that we would not make the crossing restr. After leveling at 12000 ft I asked the first officer when we had been cleared to 12000 ft; he stated it was quite a while back. I then asked if I acknowledged the clearance with him which he said he thought I did. I did not remember hearing the clearance from ATC; verifying it with the first officer; or seeing him dial it in the altitude preselect which is why I was continuing to corle at FL190 waiting for a descent from ATC. I believe there was a complete breakdown in crew communication in this instance. I had an XA00 am wake up for the 2 previous mornings; while I did my best to adjust my sleep pattern I was feeling the effects of the past several days and the whole month which has been repeating the same trip with 2 early shows with a swap during the trip to late arrs. The first officer has been flying the same trip with me all month and is dealing with irregular sleep cycles as well. As a result of this I believe that our communication and mutual verification completely broke down on this crossing restr. The first officer thinks that he verified the crossing with me but was not positive and I obviously did not hear or remember verifying the restr. After talking with the first officer about the entire event I made a strong recommendation that any time a top of descent bug is passed to make a comment about it to the other crew member to insure that both pilots are actually aware of the descent point and restr approaching.

Title: A CL65 RPTS MISSING A PHL SPUDS 1 RNAV ARR ALT RESTR AFTER NOT HEARING ATC ISSUE THE RESTR. NOTES FATIGUE FROM TRIP SCHEDULE.

Narrative: ENRTE TO PHL OVER CORLE ON THE SPUDS1 ARR I MISSED A XING RESTR OF 12000 FT AT CORLE; WE CROSSED AT APPROX 14000 FT AFTER NOTIFYING ATC WE WOULD NOT MAKE THE RESTR. BEGINNING THE SPUDS1 ARR WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS 15 MI S OF DNY AT FL190 WHICH WE DID. SOME TIME AFTER THIS POINT THE FO (PNF) RECEIVED A CLRNC TO CROSS CORLE AT 12000 FT AND PUT IT IN THE ALT SELECTOR. I WAS THE PF AND CONTINUED ON THE ARR AT FL190 WATCHING THE TOP OF DSCNT BUG APCH. AFTER PASSING THE TOP OF DSCNT I BEGAN TO WONDER WHEN WE WOULD BE CLRED TO CROSS CORLE. ABOUT 5 MI N OF CORLE I WAS ABOUT TO ASK THE FO TO QUERY ATC TO SEE IF THEY WANTED US TO CROSS CORLE AT 12000 FT. AT THIS POINT ZNY ASKED IF WE HAD BEGUN OUR DSCNT YET. THIS CAUSED MOMENTARY CONFUSION AS I DID NOT RECALL BEING CLRED TO 12000 FT BUT ON REFING THE ALT PRESELECT I SAW 12000 FT HAD BEEN DIALED IN. I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN A DSCNT AND TOLD THE FO TO NOTIFY ATC THAT WE WOULD NOT MAKE THE XING RESTR. AFTER LEVELING AT 12000 FT I ASKED THE FO WHEN WE HAD BEEN CLRED TO 12000 FT; HE STATED IT WAS QUITE A WHILE BACK. I THEN ASKED IF I ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLRNC WITH HIM WHICH HE SAID HE THOUGHT I DID. I DID NOT REMEMBER HEARING THE CLRNC FROM ATC; VERIFYING IT WITH THE FO; OR SEEING HIM DIAL IT IN THE ALT PRESELECT WHICH IS WHY I WAS CONTINUING TO CORLE AT FL190 WAITING FOR A DSCNT FROM ATC. I BELIEVE THERE WAS A COMPLETE BREAKDOWN IN CREW COM IN THIS INSTANCE. THE FO HAS BEEN FLYING THE SAME TRIP WITH ME ALL MONTH AND IS DEALING WITH IRREGULAR SLEEP CYCLES AS WELL. AS A RESULT OF THIS I BELIEVE THAT OUR COM AND MUTUAL VERIFICATION COMPLETELY BROKE DOWN ON THIS XING RESTR. THE FO THINKS THAT HE VERIFIED THE XING WITH ME BUT WAS NOT POSITIVE AND I OBVIOUSLY DID NOT HEAR OR REMEMBER VERIFYING THE RESTR. AFTER TALKING WITH THE FO ABOUT THE ENTIRE EVENT I MADE A STRONG RECOMMENDATION THAT ANY TIME A TOP OF DSCNT BUG IS PASSED TO MAKE A COMMENT ABOUT IT TO THE OTHER CREW MEMBER TO INSURE THAT BOTH PLTS ARE ACTUALLY AWARE OF THE DSCNT POINT AND RESTR APCHING.
