Narrative:

Flying into livermore airspace I noticed that the airport was very busy with arriving aircraft. I was cleared to land on runway 25R; the only runway that I have soloed on at livermore. Approximately 4 mi out on final; I was instructed to change radio frequencys and change to runway 25L where I was cleared to land. No problem; moved over and was a little less than 1 mi final for runway 25L when another plane started turning base to my left; directly toward my flight path. Called tower that I had traffic closing and they had them extend their downwind. Their original clearance was to land behind me. Okay; landed safely and was instructed to taxi right. I did so; but my nerves were still a little on edge with the last min runway change and plane turning in on me on final and I missed my cross area. The tower then asked me to taxi to the end and hold short of runway 25R. Well; even looking at my map of the airport; I thought I had to cross runway 25L before coming to runway 25R. That was my mistake; at the end of the taxiway; the only runway is runway 25R; which I mistakenly crossed. I knew immediately that I made a mistake and once cleared of the runway waited on tower to give me further instructions. I was corrected strongly from the tower; I apologized; not being familiar with that side of the airport and being a student pilot they seemed to understand; but I felt and still feel bad about the incident. I was lucky that there was no one using the runway 25R at the time; and I know if there were it could have been a very poor outcome. I have since studied every runway marker; took every safety program that I can find on runway and taxiway procedures. Every airport that I fly to; I will study the runway and taxiway diagrams and have them available once I land. Most of all; if I'm unsure of any instruction; I will verify with the tower before proceeding. I have told my instructor about the event and told him to make sure that his other students get more instruction on airport and runway safety. Too much time is placed on flying the plane and not enough on runway signs; and taxi procedures. Especially for runways that you might not have been using as a solo pilot while still a student.

Title: STUDENT PLT RPTS A RWY INCURSION DURING TAXI AFTER LNDG ON AN UNFAMILIAR RWY.

Narrative: FLYING INTO LIVERMORE AIRSPACE I NOTICED THAT THE ARPT WAS VERY BUSY WITH ARRIVING ACFT. I WAS CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 25R; THE ONLY RWY THAT I HAVE SOLOED ON AT LIVERMORE. APPROX 4 MI OUT ON FINAL; I WAS INSTRUCTED TO CHANGE RADIO FREQS AND CHANGE TO RWY 25L WHERE I WAS CLRED TO LAND. NO PROB; MOVED OVER AND WAS A LITTLE LESS THAN 1 MI FINAL FOR RWY 25L WHEN ANOTHER PLANE STARTED TURNING BASE TO MY L; DIRECTLY TOWARD MY FLT PATH. CALLED TWR THAT I HAD TFC CLOSING AND THEY HAD THEM EXTEND THEIR DOWNWIND. THEIR ORIGINAL CLRNC WAS TO LAND BEHIND ME. OKAY; LANDED SAFELY AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAXI R. I DID SO; BUT MY NERVES WERE STILL A LITTLE ON EDGE WITH THE LAST MIN RWY CHANGE AND PLANE TURNING IN ON ME ON FINAL AND I MISSED MY CROSS AREA. THE TWR THEN ASKED ME TO TAXI TO THE END AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 25R. WELL; EVEN LOOKING AT MY MAP OF THE ARPT; I THOUGHT I HAD TO CROSS RWY 25L BEFORE COMING TO RWY 25R. THAT WAS MY MISTAKE; AT THE END OF THE TXWY; THE ONLY RWY IS RWY 25R; WHICH I MISTAKENLY CROSSED. I KNEW IMMEDIATELY THAT I MADE A MISTAKE AND ONCE CLRED OF THE RWY WAITED ON TWR TO GIVE ME FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS. I WAS CORRECTED STRONGLY FROM THE TWR; I APOLOGIZED; NOT BEING FAMILIAR WITH THAT SIDE OF THE ARPT AND BEING A STUDENT PLT THEY SEEMED TO UNDERSTAND; BUT I FELT AND STILL FEEL BAD ABOUT THE INCIDENT. I WAS LUCKY THAT THERE WAS NO ONE USING THE RWY 25R AT THE TIME; AND I KNOW IF THERE WERE IT COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY POOR OUTCOME. I HAVE SINCE STUDIED EVERY RWY MARKER; TOOK EVERY SAFETY PROGRAM THAT I CAN FIND ON RWY AND TXWY PROCS. EVERY ARPT THAT I FLY TO; I WILL STUDY THE RWY AND TXWY DIAGRAMS AND HAVE THEM AVAILABLE ONCE I LAND. MOST OF ALL; IF I'M UNSURE OF ANY INSTRUCTION; I WILL VERIFY WITH THE TWR BEFORE PROCEEDING. I HAVE TOLD MY INSTRUCTOR ABOUT THE EVENT AND TOLD HIM TO MAKE SURE THAT HIS OTHER STUDENTS GET MORE INSTRUCTION ON ARPT AND RWY SAFETY. TOO MUCH TIME IS PLACED ON FLYING THE PLANE AND NOT ENOUGH ON RWY SIGNS; AND TAXI PROCS. ESPECIALLY FOR RWYS THAT YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN USING AS A SOLO PLT WHILE STILL A STUDENT.
