Narrative:

On oct/xa/06 at approximately XA00Z; first officer mr X and I departed new york la guardia airport. I was the PF and mr X was the PNF. Upon departure we experienced a failure of the captain's heading indicator. The failure was immediately realized and the flight controls were xferred to the first officer; mr X who flew the departure as prescribed; turning right to a heading of 180 degrees to 2.5 DME and then a left turn to heading 040 degrees not to exceed 210 KTS. Upon reaching 2.5 DME indicated on the copilot's DME receiver we initialized our turn to a heading of 040 degrees and then the departure controller asked us 'where we were going? And to turn to a heading of 040.' the departure controller stated that we were to turn to a heading of 040 degrees at 2.5 DME per the departure! We replied that we had followed the departure. He then further inquired about our speed and reminded us that 210 KTS was required until on a heading of 040 degrees. Our speed was negligibly fast but we quickly corrected to the exact speed. 2 additional times after being established on the 040 degree heading the controller asked us to state our speed. We replied with our IAS of 210 KTS. Prior to leaving that controller's frequency he asked us to copy down a phone number to call per his supervisor's request. The heading indicator discrepancy was resolved in flight and the flight controls were xferred back to me. While on approach into our destination washington dulles international airport just inside of GS intercept and near the OM the PNF stated that there was a disparity between our DME units indications. The difference between the copilot's unit indicated was nearly half of what the captain's side was indicating. Quickly we verified that the units were tuned the same and to the correct frequency. Established on the GS near the OM I correlated our altitude with the distance on my DME unit to be correct and that of the copilot's to be erroneous. After arriving at our destination the discrepancy was written up and deferred per the air carrier's prescribed procedures. Mr X and I then called the phone number as the departure controller requested. We spoke to a supervisor; who stated that he was not made aware of any issues and he queried his controllers to find that no one knew of any problems that had occurred involving our aircraft.

Title: AN HS125-700 DEVELOPED HDG AND DME ABNORMALITIES WHILE DEPARTING LGA. ONLY A DME ABNORMALITY OCCURRED ON APCH AT THE DEST.

Narrative: ON OCT/XA/06 AT APPROX XA00Z; FO MR X AND I DEPARTED NEW YORK LA GUARDIA ARPT. I WAS THE PF AND MR X WAS THE PNF. UPON DEP WE EXPERIENCED A FAILURE OF THE CAPT'S HDG INDICATOR. THE FAILURE WAS IMMEDIATELY REALIZED AND THE FLT CTLS WERE XFERRED TO THE FO; MR X WHO FLEW THE DEP AS PRESCRIBED; TURNING R TO A HDG OF 180 DEGS TO 2.5 DME AND THEN A L TURN TO HDG 040 DEGS NOT TO EXCEED 210 KTS. UPON REACHING 2.5 DME INDICATED ON THE COPLT'S DME RECEIVER WE INITIALIZED OUR TURN TO A HDG OF 040 DEGS AND THEN THE DEP CTLR ASKED US 'WHERE WE WERE GOING? AND TO TURN TO A HDG OF 040.' THE DEP CTLR STATED THAT WE WERE TO TURN TO A HDG OF 040 DEGS AT 2.5 DME PER THE DEP! WE REPLIED THAT WE HAD FOLLOWED THE DEP. HE THEN FURTHER INQUIRED ABOUT OUR SPD AND REMINDED US THAT 210 KTS WAS REQUIRED UNTIL ON A HDG OF 040 DEGS. OUR SPD WAS NEGLIGIBLY FAST BUT WE QUICKLY CORRECTED TO THE EXACT SPD. 2 ADDITIONAL TIMES AFTER BEING ESTABLISHED ON THE 040 DEG HDG THE CTLR ASKED US TO STATE OUR SPD. WE REPLIED WITH OUR IAS OF 210 KTS. PRIOR TO LEAVING THAT CTLR'S FREQ HE ASKED US TO COPY DOWN A PHONE NUMBER TO CALL PER HIS SUPVR'S REQUEST. THE HDG INDICATOR DISCREPANCY WAS RESOLVED IN FLT AND THE FLT CTLS WERE XFERRED BACK TO ME. WHILE ON APCH INTO OUR DEST WASHINGTON DULLES INTL ARPT JUST INSIDE OF GS INTERCEPT AND NEAR THE OM THE PNF STATED THAT THERE WAS A DISPARITY BTWN OUR DME UNITS INDICATIONS. THE DIFFERENCE BTWN THE COPLT'S UNIT INDICATED WAS NEARLY HALF OF WHAT THE CAPT'S SIDE WAS INDICATING. QUICKLY WE VERIFIED THAT THE UNITS WERE TUNED THE SAME AND TO THE CORRECT FREQ. ESTABLISHED ON THE GS NEAR THE OM I CORRELATED OUR ALT WITH THE DISTANCE ON MY DME UNIT TO BE CORRECT AND THAT OF THE COPLT'S TO BE ERRONEOUS. AFTER ARRIVING AT OUR DEST THE DISCREPANCY WAS WRITTEN UP AND DEFERRED PER THE ACR'S PRESCRIBED PROCS. MR X AND I THEN CALLED THE PHONE NUMBER AS THE DEP CTLR REQUESTED. WE SPOKE TO A SUPVR; WHO STATED THAT HE WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF ANY ISSUES AND HE QUERIED HIS CTLRS TO FIND THAT NO ONE KNEW OF ANY PROBS THAT HAD OCCURRED INVOLVING OUR ACFT.
