Narrative:

I called for taxi from FBO X with ATIS (I was actually at FBO Y). I was cleared to taxi to runway 31L. Since I was located toward the middle of the field; I had to taxi across runway 31L to the parallel taxiway to reach the end of runway 31L. As I approached the runway to cross; I looked both ways and for some reason decided to make an extra radio call telling ground that I was crossing runway 31L. After I made the call; ground came back and told me to stop. As I stopped; the nose of my aircraft was slightly across the hold line; which I informed them. Approximately 10 seconds later they cleared me to continue across. About 30 seconds after crossing; they informed me that I called for taxi from FBO X instead of the FBO I came from (FBO Y). I acknowledged my mistake. Taxiing from FBO X would have put me a couple hundred feet from runway 31L without having to cross any runways. As you can see; the ground controller hears me call from FBO X and clears me to taxi knowing that I will not have to cross any runways to get there. However; I come blasting out from somewhere else and in this case have to cross a couple of runways to get to where I was cleared to. My lessons: 1) to reiterate; you must always clear both ways before crossing any runway. 2) it's probably not a bad idea to make a blind call crossing a runway if the frequency isn't busy. 3) call from the correct position on the field! 4) don't get in a hurry. This is what got me in trouble to start with. I experienced a minor delay and was in a slight hurry; possibly making me make the wrong call. 5) try to learn something on every mission; especially from your mistakes! You guys do a superb job! Thanks for the time and effort you put in this program. There's a lot of us out here who enjoy the newsletter and learn from the experiences you pass along. What a great program!

Title: A C550 AT DAL CALLED FOR TAXI FROM AN INCORRECT FBO AND WAS CLRED TO TAXI. ATC WAS CONFUSED ABOUT THE ACFT'S POS BECAUSE OF THE CREW'S POS ERROR AND NEARLY ALLOWED A RWY INCURSION.

Narrative: I CALLED FOR TAXI FROM FBO X WITH ATIS (I WAS ACTUALLY AT FBO Y). I WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 31L. SINCE I WAS LOCATED TOWARD THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD; I HAD TO TAXI ACROSS RWY 31L TO THE PARALLEL TXWY TO REACH THE END OF RWY 31L. AS I APCHED THE RWY TO CROSS; I LOOKED BOTH WAYS AND FOR SOME REASON DECIDED TO MAKE AN EXTRA RADIO CALL TELLING GND THAT I WAS XING RWY 31L. AFTER I MADE THE CALL; GND CAME BACK AND TOLD ME TO STOP. AS I STOPPED; THE NOSE OF MY ACFT WAS SLIGHTLY ACROSS THE HOLD LINE; WHICH I INFORMED THEM. APPROX 10 SECONDS LATER THEY CLRED ME TO CONTINUE ACROSS. ABOUT 30 SECONDS AFTER XING; THEY INFORMED ME THAT I CALLED FOR TAXI FROM FBO X INSTEAD OF THE FBO I CAME FROM (FBO Y). I ACKNOWLEDGED MY MISTAKE. TAXIING FROM FBO X WOULD HAVE PUT ME A COUPLE HUNDRED FEET FROM RWY 31L WITHOUT HAVING TO CROSS ANY RWYS. AS YOU CAN SEE; THE GND CTLR HEARS ME CALL FROM FBO X AND CLRS ME TO TAXI KNOWING THAT I WILL NOT HAVE TO CROSS ANY RWYS TO GET THERE. HOWEVER; I COME BLASTING OUT FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE AND IN THIS CASE HAVE TO CROSS A COUPLE OF RWYS TO GET TO WHERE I WAS CLRED TO. MY LESSONS: 1) TO REITERATE; YOU MUST ALWAYS CLR BOTH WAYS BEFORE XING ANY RWY. 2) IT'S PROBABLY NOT A BAD IDEA TO MAKE A BLIND CALL XING A RWY IF THE FREQ ISN'T BUSY. 3) CALL FROM THE CORRECT POS ON THE FIELD!
