Narrative:

We were switched to lex approach and he told us to expect ILS to runway 22. The ATIS was reporting VFR; but it was hazy; so they were using instrument approachs. As we were setting up the approach; the captain queried approach about which approach to expect. Again the controller said it would be an ILS to runway 22. ATIS was reporting the GS OTS; so the captain clarified that it would be an ILS runway 22 GS out and the controller said yes. We got vectored onto the approach at 3200 ft. Just prior to the FAF we noticed traffic on the TCAS below us between the FAF and the airport. He didn't seem to be moving very much. The captain queried ATC that we were cleared for the approach because we had this traffic in front of us. Approach confirmed we were clear and sent us to tower. We were inside the FAF and in our descent to MDA when the captain contacted tower and again asked about the traffic in front of us. Tower immediately sent us around for another approach. He gave us an intercept vector and again cleared us for the ILS runway 22 without mentioning the GS being out. We executed the approach and landed at lex without incident. Taxiing into the gate on taxiway a there was men and equipment working; with some equipment parked close enough to the taxiway that we had to almost stop to ensure our wingtip would clear. The captain mentioned this to the tower and they said they would send someone to look into it. We were taxiing out of lex for our next flight. Ground gave us a clearance to taxi to runway 22. The captain and I had briefly discussed in our departure briefing that taxiway A7 was closed and we had to use temporary taxiway a to get to runway 22. As we came around the terminal to taxiway a; we could see the dirt where taxiway A7 was under construction; but we couldn't see where taxiway a went; so we weren't sure if we could get by the X on the closed runway 26. The captain stopped the aircraft and I asked lex ground about it. I told him I know ATIS says taxiway A7 was closed and we needed to take taxiway a to runway 22. Is that north of the X? He responded abruptly by restating what ATIS said; that taxiway A7 was under construction and use temporary taxiway a north of runway 26/8 to get to runway 22. I tried to clarify that we wanted to make sure taxiway a was on the north side of the X on runway 26. He said it was. As we continued our taxi on taxiway a and turned to cross runway 26; we could then see the temporary taxiway a. I think it would be helpful to have an accurate airport diagram for the lex airport. It is confusing to taxi out to a runway when the taxiway on the diagram is all torn up and the taxiway we are supposed to take is not depicted on the airport diagram.

Title: CRJ700 FLT CREW HAS CONCERNS WITH THE APCH-LCL CTLR TERMINOLOGY AND TXWY SIGNAGE AT LEX.

Narrative: WE WERE SWITCHED TO LEX APCH AND HE TOLD US TO EXPECT ILS TO RWY 22. THE ATIS WAS RPTING VFR; BUT IT WAS HAZY; SO THEY WERE USING INST APCHS. AS WE WERE SETTING UP THE APCH; THE CAPT QUERIED APCH ABOUT WHICH APCH TO EXPECT. AGAIN THE CTLR SAID IT WOULD BE AN ILS TO RWY 22. ATIS WAS RPTING THE GS OTS; SO THE CAPT CLARIFIED THAT IT WOULD BE AN ILS RWY 22 GS OUT AND THE CTLR SAID YES. WE GOT VECTORED ONTO THE APCH AT 3200 FT. JUST PRIOR TO THE FAF WE NOTICED TFC ON THE TCAS BELOW US BTWN THE FAF AND THE ARPT. HE DIDN'T SEEM TO BE MOVING VERY MUCH. THE CAPT QUERIED ATC THAT WE WERE CLRED FOR THE APCH BECAUSE WE HAD THIS TFC IN FRONT OF US. APCH CONFIRMED WE WERE CLR AND SENT US TO TWR. WE WERE INSIDE THE FAF AND IN OUR DSCNT TO MDA WHEN THE CAPT CONTACTED TWR AND AGAIN ASKED ABOUT THE TFC IN FRONT OF US. TWR IMMEDIATELY SENT US AROUND FOR ANOTHER APCH. HE GAVE US AN INTERCEPT VECTOR AND AGAIN CLRED US FOR THE ILS RWY 22 WITHOUT MENTIONING THE GS BEING OUT. WE EXECUTED THE APCH AND LANDED AT LEX WITHOUT INCIDENT. TAXIING INTO THE GATE ON TXWY A THERE WAS MEN AND EQUIP WORKING; WITH SOME EQUIP PARKED CLOSE ENOUGH TO THE TXWY THAT WE HAD TO ALMOST STOP TO ENSURE OUR WINGTIP WOULD CLR. THE CAPT MENTIONED THIS TO THE TWR AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD SEND SOMEONE TO LOOK INTO IT. WE WERE TAXIING OUT OF LEX FOR OUR NEXT FLT. GND GAVE US A CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 22. THE CAPT AND I HAD BRIEFLY DISCUSSED IN OUR DEP BRIEFING THAT TXWY A7 WAS CLOSED AND WE HAD TO USE TEMPORARY TXWY A TO GET TO RWY 22. AS WE CAME AROUND THE TERMINAL TO TXWY A; WE COULD SEE THE DIRT WHERE TXWY A7 WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION; BUT WE COULDN'T SEE WHERE TXWY A WENT; SO WE WEREN'T SURE IF WE COULD GET BY THE X ON THE CLOSED RWY 26. THE CAPT STOPPED THE ACFT AND I ASKED LEX GND ABOUT IT. I TOLD HIM I KNOW ATIS SAYS TXWY A7 WAS CLOSED AND WE NEEDED TO TAKE TXWY A TO RWY 22. IS THAT N OF THE X? HE RESPONDED ABRUPTLY BY RESTATING WHAT ATIS SAID; THAT TXWY A7 WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION AND USE TEMPORARY TXWY A N OF RWY 26/8 TO GET TO RWY 22. I TRIED TO CLARIFY THAT WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE TXWY A WAS ON THE N SIDE OF THE X ON RWY 26. HE SAID IT WAS. AS WE CONTINUED OUR TAXI ON TXWY A AND TURNED TO CROSS RWY 26; WE COULD THEN SEE THE TEMPORARY TXWY A. I THINK IT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO HAVE AN ACCURATE ARPT DIAGRAM FOR THE LEX ARPT. IT IS CONFUSING TO TAXI OUT TO A RWY WHEN THE TXWY ON THE DIAGRAM IS ALL TORN UP AND THE TXWY WE ARE SUPPOSED TO TAKE IS NOT DEPICTED ON THE ARPT DIAGRAM.
