Narrative:

While landing on an unfamiliar grass runway; I was unable to stop in time to avoid running off the end of the runway; crossing a road and going through a wire fence. I spoke to the runway owner about 1/2 hour before the flight and he advised me that they were seeding the first part of the runway and asked me to land past that area. The entire grass runway was approximately 2500 ft. The unusable portion was about 600 ft; reducing it to approximately 1900 ft. The owner assured me that he had been landing in this distance and I should have no problem stopping. I was unaware that the owner had just cut the grass; which probably contributed to the incident. The field also had a slight downhill slope in the direction I was landing. I was landing to the north and the winds were light and variable; generally from the north. I have landed on grass before and never had a problem. In fact; I had landed on this runway the week before but the winds were from the opposite direction. That landing went well.

Narrative: WHILE LNDG ON AN UNFAMILIAR GRASS RWY; I WAS UNABLE TO STOP IN TIME TO AVOID RUNNING OFF THE END OF THE RWY; XING A ROAD AND GOING THROUGH A WIRE FENCE. I SPOKE TO THE RWY OWNER ABOUT 1/2 HR BEFORE THE FLT AND HE ADVISED ME THAT THEY WERE SEEDING THE FIRST PART OF THE RWY AND ASKED ME TO LAND PAST THAT AREA. THE ENTIRE GRASS RWY WAS APPROX 2500 FT. THE UNUSABLE PORTION WAS ABOUT 600 FT; REDUCING IT TO APPROX 1900 FT. THE OWNER ASSURED ME THAT HE HAD BEEN LNDG IN THIS DISTANCE AND I SHOULD HAVE NO PROB STOPPING. I WAS UNAWARE THAT THE OWNER HAD JUST CUT THE GRASS; WHICH PROBABLY CONTRIBUTED TO THE INCIDENT. THE FIELD ALSO HAD A SLIGHT DOWNHILL SLOPE IN THE DIRECTION I WAS LNDG. I WAS LNDG TO THE N AND THE WINDS WERE LIGHT AND VARIABLE; GENERALLY FROM THE N. I HAVE LANDED ON GRASS BEFORE AND NEVER HAD A PROB. IN FACT; I HAD LANDED ON THIS RWY THE WK BEFORE BUT THE WINDS WERE FROM THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. THAT LNDG WENT WELL.
