Narrative:

After departure at about 1000 ft we noticed a tail compartment temperature high light. After cleaning up the aircraft and performing the ato (after takeoff) check I called for the appropriate qrc; leading to the QRH. I leveled at 9000 ft and experienced a significant pack rumble and vibration. Continuing the checklist the tail compartment temperature high light was intermittent as was the pack rumble and vibration. After speaking to maintenance; dispatch and operations we elected to return to ZZZ and write up the problem.

Title: AN MD80 ON TKOF CLB AT 1000 FT RETURNED TO THE DEP ARPT DUE TO TAIL COMPARTMENT TEMP HIGH WARNING AND PACK RUMBLE AND VIBRATION.

Narrative: AFTER DEP AT ABOUT 1000 FT WE NOTICED A TAIL COMPARTMENT TEMP HIGH LIGHT. AFTER CLEANING UP THE ACFT AND PERFORMING THE ATO (AFTER TKOF) CHK I CALLED FOR THE APPROPRIATE QRC; LEADING TO THE QRH. I LEVELED AT 9000 FT AND EXPERIENCED A SIGNIFICANT PACK RUMBLE AND VIBRATION. CONTINUING THE CHKLIST THE TAIL COMPARTMENT TEMP HIGH LIGHT WAS INTERMITTENT AS WAS THE PACK RUMBLE AND VIBRATION. AFTER SPEAKING TO MAINT; DISPATCH AND OPS WE ELECTED TO RETURN TO ZZZ AND WRITE UP THE PROB.
