Narrative:

Aircraft had previous log item of left engine hydraulic pump overheat. Maintenance changed filter and ran for 5 mins and cleared item. Over the mountains we had left engine hydraulic pump caution on EICAS along with pump pressure light on overhead. Shut pump off per checklist. Talked to dispatch and maintenance. Everybody ok to continue. 5 mins later; left hydraulic quantity was dropping. Talked to maintenance and dispatch; checked WX and runway conditions; and got clearance to ZZZ declaring an emergency. Notified flight attendants and cabin advisory. Got left hydraulic quantity on EICAS with rsvr light on overhead. Shut off electric pump per checklist. Completed checklists for rudder ratio and left yaw damper. Reviewed inoperative equipment. Previewed inoperative ptu procedures. Selected flap 1 degree on downwind for runway 34L and flaps stuck at 1/2 degree with ptu xfer unit status message. Completed that checklist along with alternate gear and flaps. I (captain) landed with flaps 20 degrees. Emergency crew checked over the airplane and company tug towed us in.
