Narrative:

The informational display system (ids) is located above the radar scope at all position in TRACON. As they have gotten older the screens are failing. At the radar west position the ids was replaced with a flat screen monitor. This particular monitor cannot be adjusted to a low light setting and is therefore too bright. This causes glare on the radar scope. I had been wearing a visor to block this light from my eyes; solving the problem. Due to the new work rules that the FAA has imposed on the work force I have been told I can no longer wear anything to block the illumination from the ids. Without either something to block the illumination or a monitor that can be adjusted to an acceptable level; I am forced to turn the display off. This keeps vital information I need to safely work aircraft not readily available. Monitors that can be adjusted are available; our stars monitors can be adjusted to acceptable levels.
