Narrative:

While on the teb 5 departure out of teb a climb to 1500 ft MSL was initiated. During the climb a 280 degree heading was assumed and while in the turn an altitude of 1700 ft MSL was reached before corrective active was taken and also; at the same time; queried by ATC to 'maintain 1500 ft.' the flight was continued without incident. To correct such an occurrence from happening again the 'after takeoff' checklist could be postponed till after all maneuvers have been completed. The pre takeoff briefing could stress such distrs as holding on checklists; calling out altitudes; and making sure the procedure is completely understood.
