Narrative:

Tank #1 fuel quantity indicator deferred. During cruise; tank #1 fuel quantity low alert. Followed QRH. ACARS to maintenance for clarification. Shortly after tank #1 forward pump low alert; immediate divert to ZZZ1 80 NM northeast of aircraft position. Asked jumpseating MD11 crew member to enter cockpit for assistance during busy arrival. Emergency declared. Established on ILS final engine #1 RPM low alert; terminated checklist; confirmed 'engine out' on FMS page. Captain trimmed aircraft and landed on runway 26R. Asked fire crew to inspect aircraft. They reported no leaks or smoke. After block-in; mechanic stated #1 tank stick dry. Maintenance inspection in ZZZ1 confirmed no leaks or abnormalities; refueled -- same crew flew aircraft to ZZZ2. Upon block-in; captain asked maintenance to stick #1 tank; which was within 500 pounds of #3 tank quantity.
