Narrative:

During the 'taxi checklist' the PF noticed the 'external doors' cas and stopped the aircraft. The stop point was next to the access road where an unidented ground vehicle called ground to advise of the open door. The PF advised the passenger and exited the aircraft to secure the door while I coordinated with ground control. Door was secured without incident and flight proceeded. Contributing factors: 1) crew change. I was swapping with another pilot on a quick turn and was doing the crew handoff briefing when the passenger showed up. 2) not doing my 'personal' walkaround. I relied on the PF PIC's (not a part of the crew swap) word on the walkaround. Due to the passenger arrival I wasn't able to do the walkaround. 3) non-standard procedures. The PF left the aft equipment door open for cooling. This is not a normal procedure. My thanks go out to the observant ground vehicle. He used clear phraseology including our n-number and the exact nature of concern. Had our cas not worked this information would have been crucial in preventing an incident.

Title: GLF4 TAXIES OUT WITH AFT EQUIP DOOR OPEN.

Narrative: DURING THE 'TAXI CHKLIST' THE PF NOTICED THE 'EXTERNAL DOORS' CAS AND STOPPED THE ACFT. THE STOP POINT WAS NEXT TO THE ACCESS ROAD WHERE AN UNIDENTED GND VEHICLE CALLED GND TO ADVISE OF THE OPEN DOOR. THE PF ADVISED THE PAX AND EXITED THE ACFT TO SECURE THE DOOR WHILE I COORDINATED WITH GND CTL. DOOR WAS SECURED WITHOUT INCIDENT AND FLT PROCEEDED. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: 1) CREW CHANGE. I WAS SWAPPING WITH ANOTHER PLT ON A QUICK TURN AND WAS DOING THE CREW HDOF BRIEFING WHEN THE PAX SHOWED UP. 2) NOT DOING MY 'PERSONAL' WALKAROUND. I RELIED ON THE PF PIC'S (NOT A PART OF THE CREW SWAP) WORD ON THE WALKAROUND. DUE TO THE PAX ARR I WASN'T ABLE TO DO THE WALKAROUND. 3) NON-STANDARD PROCS. THE PF LEFT THE AFT EQUIP DOOR OPEN FOR COOLING. THIS IS NOT A NORMAL PROC. MY THANKS GO OUT TO THE OBSERVANT GND VEHICLE. HE USED CLR PHRASEOLOGY INCLUDING OUR N-NUMBER AND THE EXACT NATURE OF CONCERN. HAD OUR CAS NOT WORKED THIS INFO WOULD HAVE BEEN CRUCIAL IN PREVENTING AN INCIDENT.
