Narrative:

Was assigned to work aircraft with ATC r-hand transponder. Flight crew maintenance report run had company part #TRX2221. Removed transponders from aircraft. Found it to be a TRX1234. Replaced unit same as off aircraft performed operations per maintenance manual. Later I was informed that TRX1234 was incorrect and that it should have been TRX2221. Correct transponder was installed at another station. In future will pay more attention to ipc effectivity when numerous company part numbers available. There are 3 different xponders for this fleet type.
