Narrative:

FMS developed an anomaly which led aircraft to disconnect and proceed 20 degrees off heading. Discovered error and in process of correcting when ATC called and asked about error. Original arrival atl was erlin 2 salms transition; memphis changed arrival to erlin 2 mem transition cleared direct mem. Selected direct mem verified leg executed then selected erlin 2 mem transition FMS looked right; map looked ok. Between re-clearance point and mem route discontinuity developed mem/gpy/mem-devac-calco-rmg-erlin. Because of peculiar nature of error we discovered it only after aircraft did not turn at mem.
