Narrative:

On may/fri/06; around XA00; while flying a C172; nwbound in the vicinity of ZZZ; I noticed the oil pressure dropping. I elected to land at the nearest airport. I advised approach control of my situation. I asked if I could land at ZZZ. They asked if I was declaring an emergency; I said yes. Approach turned me over to ZZZ tower; they cleared me to land. After filling out all the necessary forms; we opened the cowling to see if we could find the problem. It was determined the oil filler cap was not properly installed. We cleaned the aircraft; added oil; installed the filler cap properly. The trip was resumed. No further incident.
