Narrative:

During taxi out of sfo approximately 3 mins after push we received our final weights from load planning. We taxied to runway 1R at sfo uneventfully and were cleared for takeoff. During rotation at gear retraction we got a 'ding' which sounded like a cabin call from the flight attendants. We soon discovered it was not that; but instead an ACARS message with an audio 'ding.' at a safe altitude the ACARS message we got was from load planning; stating that the station had revised their final load plan and our current weights were invalid. Our thoughts were as follows: very bad timing on the ACARS message. Later message said no major changes. We should not be getting an aural ding at gear retraction for those type of messages. (Type aircraft was B757-200.) also; station should better coordination with load planner. Really (late) bad timing. Supplemental information from acn 697398: as I see it; there are 2 issues of concern here. 1) is load planning able to give us accurate weights/balance prior to takeoff. 2) why; when warnings/cautions; etc; are inhibited during the high speed portion of the takeoff; is the very distracting ACARS chime functional. If I receive a chime at that point; I assume an emergency in the cabin; not a 'paperwork issue' at load planning?
