Narrative:
Event occurred while loading cargo and bags while at gate. Aircraft boarded and waited for aft pit loading to be completed. While loading cargo bags; ramp personnel noticed smoke odor and discovered that one cardboard box was smoldering with a hole burned through it as well as numerous other pieces with burn holes in them. All bags and cargo inspected; all cargo bags removed from aircraft. Flight then departed with no further incident.

Title: B737 CAPT RPTS DURING LOADING OF CARGO AT GATE; GND CREW DISCOVERED ODOR OF SMOKE AND DISCOVERED SMOLDERING CARDBOARD BOX. REMOVED BOX FROM ACFT AND CONTINUED.
Narrative: EVENT OCCURRED WHILE LOADING CARGO AND BAGS WHILE AT GATE. ACFT BOARDED AND WAITED FOR AFT PIT LOADING TO BE COMPLETED. WHILE LOADING CARGO BAGS; RAMP PERSONNEL NOTICED SMOKE ODOR AND DISCOVERED THAT ONE CARDBOARD BOX WAS SMOLDERING WITH A HOLE BURNED THROUGH IT AS WELL AS NUMEROUS OTHER PIECES WITH BURN HOLES IN THEM. ALL BAGS AND CARGO INSPECTED; ALL CARGO BAGS REMOVED FROM ACFT. FLT THEN DEPARTED WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT.
